Vertical has acquired Conor Soucy’s directorial debut “Dead Whisper” and will debut it in select theaters on July 5, and on AppleTV and Prime Video, beginning July 9.
The horror/thriller film “Dead Whisper” stars Samuel Dunning (“Tim Travers and the Time Travelers Paradox”) and marks the first on-screen role for Rob Evan, whose previous credits include Broadway’s “Les Misérables,” and “Jekyll & Hyde.” The rest of the cast’s ensemble includes Tana Sirois, Samantha Hill, Codey Gillum, Chris Goodwin, Dhane Ross, Hester Wilkinson and Bruce Winant.
According to an official logline, the film “follows Elliot Campbell, (Dunning) a Cape Cod lawyer drawn to a mysterious island, where he faces the temptation of reuniting with his dead daughter at the peril of his soul.”
The film is produced by Conor Soucy, Birk Gran and Ben Grant. The cinematography is also by Grant and a live orchestral score is by Nikhil Koparkar.

“It’s all about high and low,” exclaimed Michael Kors. “It always has been. Isn’t that what fashion’s all about?”
Tucked into a leather-lined booth in an elegant dining room replete with ivory flowers, passed trays of rosé champagne, spicy tuna cones and caviar handed out by handsome tux-ed waiters, he peered out into the softly lit, glorious sea of ladies during cocktail hour — many boldface names — decked out in his classic slinky black and gold jersey numbers — and chuckled: “Nobody would believe we’re in Canters!”
That’s right: Canter’s Deli on Fairfax, the old school almost hundred-year-old hangout for neighborhood regulars by day, and late-night post-club hipsters by night. Known for bagels, pastrami sandwiches, fat fries and Dr. Brown’s soda, not for being a celebrity hotspot.
Excuse me?

Kerry Washington, Olivia Wilde, Gabrielle Union, Mindy Kaling, Kaitlyn Dever, Alexandra Schipp, Marisa Tomei and Zoey Deutch gathered at Canter’s Deli in Los Angeles on Tuesday night to help Michael Kors celebrate his new store on Rodeo Drive.

“Freeze mother bitches!” What’s the all-time best buddy cop movie ever made? 48 Hrs? Lethal Weapon? Beverly Hills Cop? Rush Hour? The Nice Guys? In terms of story and dramatic action, any one of these titles warrants serious consideration. But when it comes to the onscreen rapport and natural chemistry between two stars in a buddy cop movie, it’s hard to beat 1995’s Bad Boys – the directorial debut of the divisive filmmaker Michael Bay. Sure, Bay has earned a rightful rep as a bold and boisterous music-video director turned filmmaker who favors big, dumb, pyrotechnic excesses over quality cinematic storytelling.
However, Bay does deserve at least a modicum of credit for pairing the comedic talents of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence together as Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett – two immensely likable Miami narcotics officers who trade crackling banter and witty one-liners whose onscreen partnership drives the engagement and entertainment level.

Have you ever wondered about the intricate behind-the-scenes dynamics that can influence the trajectory of a TV show and the careers of those involved? Such is the tale of how Marisa Tomei—known to many as the heartwarming Aunt May in the MCU—faced a fork in her path to stardom after a brief but impactful stint on NBC’s A Different World.
As a vibrant Hillman College student, Maggie Lauton, Tomei made a brief appearance in the debut season before a provocative storyline led to her unceremonious exit. Debbie Allen, who assumed the producer’s mantle from season two onward, had ambitious plans for exploring Tomei’s character.

This week, two attorneys will stand and make their cases to the jury. Yes, that jury and that trial, which may put a former—and future?—president behind bars. This is when the pressure falls on the prosecution and defense to make their final claims of guilt or innocence.
“At this point, parties are free to use hypothetical analogies to make their points; to comment on the credibility of the witnesses, to discuss how they believe the various pieces of the puzzle fit into a compelling whole, and to advocate why jurors should decide the case in their favor,” explains the official site of the Federal Court System.
Or, we can just recall the most memorable, decisive arguments made on screen. Hey, we can handle the truth! Here is my list of 10 to remember.

While we never got to see Peter losing Uncle Ben in the MCU, which makes sense as it has been done to death in other iterations, No Way Home did leave fans teary-eyed with Aunt May’s demise. Although heartbreaking for sure, this could be regarded as this version of Peter’s canon event, as her death and Nwh‘s ending set the path for a more traditional Spider-Man story moving forward.
However, per new reports, it seems this wasn’t the last of Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May in the MCU, as Spider-Man 4 is reportedly planning to bring her back in some form.

With the San Diego Comic-Con and D23 fast approaching, it surely won't be too much longer until we get a long-overdue slate update from Marvel Studios.
Some changes are bound to have been made following a return to quality over quantity and there are still big gaps in the Multiverse Saga which need to be filled.
It's looking like Young Avengers will be one of those projects and, according to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, that will be led by Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop/Hawkeye and Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. The Marvels' post-credits scene set the stage for them to take charge of the team, so we're not exactly shocked.
As for who will join them, your guess is as good as ours...there are plenty of potential candidates, though.
Next up is Spider-Man 4. Earlier today, we told you that Venom is expected to play a minor role in the movie.

As part of Sony's celebration of Columbia Pictures' 100th anniversary, every live-action Spider-Man movie is swinging back into theaters.
Dropping every Monday as part of the studio's "Spider-Mondays," we've seen over the past 5 weeks that there's a real appetite among moviegoers to see the wall-crawler back on the big screen.
Unfortunately, Spider-Man: Homecoming webbed up the lowest box office haul to date with a disappointing $285,000 opening day. With 466 theaters in the U.S. screening the movie, that works out to a far from amazing $612 per theater average.
Some will likely jump on this news to tear into the MCU, forgetting that Marvel Studios actually saved Spidey back in 2017 (following his memorable debut the year prior in Captain America: Civil War).
Understandably, there's less interest in seeing Tom Holland's Spider-Man back on the big screen because he's really not been gone that long. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy and...

If you’ve been keeping up with distribution news recently, there’s been one name you’ll have seen pop up again and again: Vertical.
Since the pandemic, the bottom has fallen out of the film business, with more quality indie packages hitting the marketplace than there are distributors willing to take them on. Stepping up, in the years since, to offer many of them a home, is this indie distributor, which appears to be in the midst of its biggest year yet.

Adam Scott might have the most thankless part in Madame Web. He exists simply to share the screen with a listless Dakota Johnson and trade expository dialogue about how her character Cassie Webb doesn’t like children or anything related to family—obnoxious signposts to give the movie something like a character arc. Cast to bring the good will he earned playing wholesome snarks in Party Down and Parks and Recreation, Scott delivers his lines with a wry reserve that feels like resignation.
And yet, Scott’s mere presence in the film gives Madame Web an important quality lacking in all of Spider-Man’s MCU appearances. Because Scott isn’t playing any guy who shows way too much concern for his co-worker’s disinterest in being a mother; he’s playing Ben Parker, beloved and ill-fated uncle to Peter Parker.

One of the downsides of streaming’s cord-cutting era has been how hard it is to stumble on a great movie midway through. You know the joy of which we speak. After a long day at work or school, a moment to unwind turns into discovering one of your favorite flicks, that one you’ve probably seen a hundred times, is playing right now on cable. And wouldn’t you know it, you’ve come across it right at your favorite bit.
Before you know it, you spend the next 90 minutes catching up on a film you already have half committed to memory. It’s a perhaps uniquely dated phenomenon, but a great one for those of us who have entire personal libraries of movies that we may never have seen from beginning to end. Actor Timothée Chalamet is a critical darling, with many of his films receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews alongside commercial success. He was also nominated for a Best Actor Academy Award for his work in 2017’s Call Me by Your Name. However, despite a glowing career of critical acclaim, one film in Chalamet’s filmography remains a catastrophic failure.

However, despite featuring the likes of Olivia Wilde and Diane Keaton, the film could not be saved from being a critical mistake in Chalamet’s career, becoming his lowest-rated film. However, despite featuring the likes of Olivia Wilde and Diane Keaton, the film could not be saved from being a critical mistake in Chalamet’s career, becoming his lowest-rated film. Here is why Love the Coopers failed despite boasting one of the best ensemble casts for a comedy film.

This year’s races for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress were over before they started. Robert Downey Jr. in “Oppenheimer” and Da’Vine Joy Randolph in “The Holdovers” took leads in the Gold Derby odds in their respective categories early in the season. They both went on to pick up Golden Globe, Critics Choice, BAFTA and SAG Awards. By the time the Oscars rolled around, there was a “near zero” chance of either of them losing.
In contrast, the lead acting contests provided considerably more suspense. Bradley Cooper in “Maestro,” Paul Giamatti in “The Holdovers” and Cillian Murphy in “Oppenheimer” were all looking strong at different point in the derby, before Murphy really exploded and ultimately won the Best Actor Oscar. And Lily Gladstone in “Killers of the Flower Moon” and Emma Stone in “Poor Things” kept trading the top spot in the Best Actress odds. Gladstone finally reclaimed...

Looking back at Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 crime thriller Pulp Fiction we can all agree that the casting of John Travolta, Uma Thurman, and Bruce Willis was top-notch, alongside the impeccable storyline. But what if we say, Willis was never on Tarantino’s long list of potential actors for the role of Butch Coolidge.
Nicolas Cage in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022)
According to reports, Quentin Tarantino suggested Sean Penn, Nicolas Cage, and Johnny Depp, for the iconic role. Suggesting a lengthy list of names ahead of casting, Tarantino wanted to star the above-mentioned A-listers in his crime thriller over Bruce Willis. But things worked in favor of the Die Hard star, as he eventually appeared alongside Uma Thurman’s Mia.
Bruce Willis Wasn’t on Quentin Tarantino’s List of Actors
Landing an Academy Award for Writing following his critically acclaimed 1994 neo-noir Pulp Fiction, Quentin Tarantino turned into a renowned filmmaker.

Winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, Da’Vine Joy Randolph wanted to thank her publicist.
“I have to give a special shoutout to my publicist, and I know you all said, ‘Don’t say nothing about no publicist,’” the actress began onstage, referencing some cheeky pre-show instructions. “But you don’t have a publicist like I have a publicist.”
“The Holdovers” star continued, “You have been by my side through the entire thing, and I am forever grateful.”
Wait, who is “you”? Host Jimmy Kimmel had the same question and doubled-backed to Randolph shortly after her win was announced, quipping after a brief break, “You forgot to mention your publicist’s name. I think your publicist needs a publicist is what it is.”
Without a mic, Randolph then desperately attempted to mouth the name Marla Farrell from her seat.

A haunting lead performance from Marco Pigossi, steeped in melancholy and raw pain but also in moments of openness, optimism and even joy, helps make High Tide an affecting portrait of untethered gay men seeking meaningful connections. Writer-director Marco Calvani’s sensitively observed first feature draws parallels between the isolation of an undocumented Brazilian, nearing the end of his visa and disinclined to return home, and that of a Black American, secure in his tight friendship circle but very much aware he’s the minority in a predominantly white queer tourist mecca — and in the country at large.
About that setting — for anyone who loves Provincetown, this film and its enveloping sense of place will evoke fond associations with the historic fishing village and art colony on the tip of Cape Cod.

The main draw on the surface of writer-director Marco Calvani’s lovely if overly dramatic feature debut is the jaw-dislocating physical beauty of its star. That might sound crass, but “High Tide” is a movie that dares you not to be obsessed with — and attracted to — its leading man. Actor Marco Pigossi, Calvani’s real-life partners, enters the first frame as if sculpted out of marble, or butter even, stripping down to nothing and rushing into the sea off a desolate nude beach along Provincetown, Massachusetts, in a spin of anguish.
The cold open is a bookend “High Tide” will return to at its climax. It’s also a chilly plunge into a baptismal, hoped-for catharsis for Lourenço (Pigossi), a Brazilian immigrant with an expiring tourist visa reeling from a sudden breakup and now stuck in the United States, hoping to stay there. Bereft and abandoned by his unseen American...

Riverdale stars Camila Mendes, Lili Reinhart and Madelaine Petsch (Picture Credit: Instagram)
It has been six months since Riverdale ended. The CW supernatural teenage show had quite a long run of seven seasons. From romance to murder mystery to horror elements, the series had everything. Based on Archie Comics, the show stars Lili Reinhart, Cole Sprouse, Camila Mendes, Kj Apa, Madelaine Petsch, Vanessa Morgan, Casey Cott and others.
Riverdale’s storyline always perplexed the audience. Sometimes, it made sense, and most of the time, none of it made sense. However, the show gave us unique talents and solid friendships. Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes and Madelaine Petsch are one such trio who became good friends on the sets. The ladies often shared beautiful pictures and cool TikTok videos.
So, has anything changed ever since the show ended? Did their friendship change, and is the cast still connected via group chat? Camila has answered these burning questions.

When it was released in 1992, My Cousin Vinny was both a critical and commercial hit. And in the over three decades since it hit theaters, it has only grown in stature, becoming one of the most significant films of the decade. Part of the reason for that was the incredible chemistry shared by co-stars Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei, who earned an Academy Award for her performance in the movie. When the film was released, Pesci talked about some of the things he liked most about making the movie, including his favorite scene and that chemistry with Tomei. The treasure trove of young talent that emerged from The CW’s “Riverdale” is truly astonishing, and Camila Mendes is no exception. Her star power as both an actress in and executive producer of the immediately classic rom-com “Upgraded” takes the New York University alum to new heights.
While Mendes’ former “Riverdale” costars are flying high in their respective lanes, with Cole Sprouse stealing scenes even as a mute zombie in the Diablo Cody-penned “Lisa Frankenstein” to Charles Melton’s haunting, award-winning (yet Oscar-snubbed) performance in “May December,” Mendes has proven her own visionary chops in recent years. The star had a standout role in frothy high school dark comedy “Do Revenge” opposite Maya Hawke, and now holds her own alongside iconic actress Marisa Tomei in “Upgraded.”

It’s quite the feat to craft a satisfying, clever romantic comedy in this cynical day and age, given almost every meet-cute, situational shenanigan and grand gesture has already been put to celluloid. However, “Upgraded,” which initially appears to be a stereotypical rags-to-riches tale centered on a desperate gal’s life drastically improving after telling a white lie to a cute guy, keeps these expected elements fresh and vibrant. Director Carlson Young and screenwriters Christine Lenig, Justin Matthews and Luke Spencer Roberts ground sharp, soaring sentiments in a reachable reality, innovatively remixing the genre’s familiar formulas to create their own meaningful and rather endearing movie.
Ana (Camila Mendes) is overworked and underpaid, stuck in a low-level trainee program at a premiere New York City auction house, Erwin, which brokers million-dollar deals on paintings. It’s her dream in life to open up her own art gallery and move out...

After becoming a household name with her popular role in ‘Riverdale’, actress Camila Mendes is all set to bowl fans over with her much-loved swoony charm. Playing Ana Santos, a broke but ambitious art curator intern from New York, Mendes will soon be seen in the upcoming Amazon Original movie ‘Upgraded’. The film takes viewers alongside the streets of London in this romantic comedy, where mistaken identities and luck-filled meet-cutes will steal their hearts this Valentine’s season.
Mendes, who also dons the hat of an executive producer for the film, felt an instant connection to Ana Santos and was excited to be fully involved in developing her character arc as well as the story.

I remember exactly where I was when I discovered Philip Seymour Hoffman had died. I was at a revival screening of the 1979 version of Battlestar: Galactica at a Montreal theatre, waiting for the film to start when my email blew up. Here at JoBlo, whenever an icon dies, it tends to become a thread that allows us all to vent a little, and Hoffman’s death destroyed many of us.
It shook me up in a lot of ways, as I had just seen him at the Sundance Film Festival a few weeks earlier, where he had two films, A Most Wanted Man and God’s Pocket. In hindsight, it’s easy to say he didn’t look quite right, but honestly, I had no clue anything was wrong with him. Of course, in the days following his death, we learned that addiction had taken its toll on perhaps the most outstanding actor of his generation,...

Supporting cast includes Nick Moran, Chris Petrovski, Daniel Bernhardt, James Faulkner, Laetitia Eido, Isobel Wood and Nina Bergman.
The film was written by George Mahaffey (Heatseekers) and directed by Jesse V. Johnson. Producers are Steve Lee Jones for Bee Holder and Matthew Shreder for Concourse.

In 2020 – for the first time in seven years – the Best Supporting Actress Oscar category saw a lone nomination, meaning that a film was recognized there and nowhere else. This achievement is attributed to Kathy Bates (“Richard Jewell”), who competed for no major precursors except the Golden Globe but still managed to bump Critics Choice, SAG, and Globe nominee Jennifer Lopez (“Hustlers”). Perhaps unsurprisingly given the length of the streak she broke, there has yet to be a lone contender in any of her category’s subsequent lineups.
Since the introduction of the two gendered supporting Oscars in 1937, there have been 57 female lone nominees and 54 male ones, with over half of the entrants on the former roster having been added before 1977. The one who directly preceded Bates was Helen Hunt, whose inclusion in her lineup was much more heavily predicted. Coincidentally, both women had the perceived advantage of being former Best Actress champions,...

"Crazy, Stupid, Love" is one of the best romantic comedies of the 2010s. Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa from a script by "This is Us" creator Dan Fogelman, the film features an absolutely incredible all-star cast that includes Julianne Moore, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Kevin Bacon, Marisa Tomei, John Carroll Lynch, and Joey King.
"Crazy, Stupid, Love" strikes a rare balance between being clever and sincere, emotional but not overly sentimental. The LA Times called the film "a grand romantic gesture about grand romantic gestures" when it was first released, and it hits exactly why it remains so well-liked.
