A new installment for Lionsgate’s $3.3B franchise has been greenlit, and once again it’s a prequel, set 40 years after the events of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Considering the last installment, which lacked Jennifer Lawrence, failed to replicate the success of the original trilogy, it’ll be interesting to see if Lionsgate can set things right this time.
In order to ensure the new prequel avoids the shortcomings of the 2023 release, the studio should take notes on what made the first one special. The foremost aspect that the Lawrence-led film nailed was its protagonist, which turned out to be a great role model that kids and young adults can look up to. But it might not have been the case if it wasn’t for Lawrence, who refused to yield to the studio’s decisions regarding how Katniss should appear.

We’ll make a return to Panem in 2026 as Lionsgate announces a new Hunger Games film. More on the story below.
Last year’s The Hunger Games: Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes was a welcome return to the world of Panem and introduced us to a much younger Coriolanus Snow, far before he became the villain we saw in the original four films.
The film grossed over $330 million at the global box office against a budget of $100m, making it successful enough for Lionsgate to consider a sequel – and one has just materialised.
It was announced yesterday that author Suzanne Collins is due to release a new Hunger Games book, titled Sunrise On The Reaping, in 2025, and Lionsgate announced a film adaptation would follow in 2026.
The book will take place 40 years after the events of Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes and will feature the Second Quarter Quell.

Earlier today, the news broke that author Suzanne Collins is writing a new Hunger Games novel titled Sunrise on the Reaping. It will arrive in bookstores on March 18, 2025, and features a story which takes place 40 years after The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
"With 'Sunrise on the Reaping,' I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, 'the easiness with which the many are governed by the few,'" Collins explained. "The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question 'Real or not real?' seems more pressing to me every day."
Fans of the hit franchise wasted no time speculating that this book is likely setting the stage for another movie and, unsurprisingly, Lionsgate has confirmed plans (via SFFGazette.com) for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on...

Greetings to District 13 – it’s been a big day for Hunger Games news. First came the information that author Suzanne Collins has penned a new book in her dystopian murder-fest series, entitled Sunrise On The Reaping, arriving in March 2025. And then, swiftly after, came the other update fans had been hoping for: a film adaptation is on the way, officially titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping. Yes, it’s time to head back into the arena, delving into a set of Games that has long been ripe for exploring.
Both Collins’ book and the film adaptation will be set in the realm of the 50th Hunger Games – 24 years before Katniss Everdeen became a tribute, and 40 years after Lucy Gray Baird competed in the 10th Hunger Games in The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes. And anyone entrenched in the world of Panem will know two things about that instantly: first,...

"The Hunger Games" are far from over. Not only has it been confirmed that author Suzanne Collins is continuing the franchise with a brand new prequel novel, but Lionsgate has also announced that the forthcoming book will be turned into a movie. Titled "Sunrise on the Reaping," the book is due to hit shelves in 2025, with the movie dated for 2026. Most crucially, this new story will fill in the history of a character fans have wanted to know more about for a long time. Namely, Haymitch Abernathy.
According to a press release, the book will hit shelves on March 18, 2025. Lionsgate wasted precisely zero time in getting the rights to the film locked up. Francis Lawrence, who has directed every entry in the franchise save for the original, is in talks to return for this latest installment. That makes every bit of sense given the success of last year's "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes...

The heat is on across King’s Dominion. To cool off, The Losers’ Club put on their shades, put the top down on their 1958 Plymouth Fury convertible, and feel the breeze in Hollywood King. It’s another high-octane news episode that finds Losers Randall Colburn, McKenzie Gerber, Jenn Adams and Justin Gerber cycling through the latest Stephen King headlines.

Have you seen an occult fantasy movie or TV series in recent years? If you have, then it is quite possible that it owes a lot to the Hellblazer comic book about John Constantine that DC Comics began publishing in 1988. For example, Supernatural referred to the adventures of Constantine, but traces of the detective-demonologist can be found wherever the smell of hellish fumes and pentagram paints waft.
The rude and dishonest detective John Constantine first appeared in Alan Moore's comic book series The Saga of Swamp Thing. In 2005, the long-running Hellblazer comic was brought to the big screen by director Francis Lawrence.

As George Miller’s oil and blood-fuelled Furiosa hits the screens, we ponder what makes a great prequel.
Mild spoilers for The First Omen.
There are a lot of bad prequels. There are some good prequels, but a great prequel is a rare thing to come across. They’re like a rare animal, the unicorns of cinema. Some wonder if such a thing even exists, but when you do watch one, it’s really rather something.
George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga might just be one, a prequel which somehow manages to justify its existence and repeat the exhilarating sense of time and place as Mad Max: Fury Road. I’d be surprised if we saw another action film as handsomely made as Furiosa in 2024. Or 2025. Or 2026.
Prequels are an easy sell for studios, but a hard sell for audiences. For studios, they’re an easy way...

That surge of excitement has hit a fever pitch for fans as rumors swirl and fan-made trailers ignite our imaginations about Keanu Reeves playing John Constantine again. News of Constantine 2 has been much anticipated by fans, especially since it was earlier reported that the Canadian actor, 59, will play the title character again.
The first film narrated the tale of John Constantine, a cynical demon hunter who must navigate the murky alleys of a parallel, horrifying reality. Although Warner Bros. has not formally disclosed a release date, there is much conjecture that the follow-up film may arrive in theaters early in 2025.

Stephen King's books that have not yet been adapted fall into three groups: "no one tried to adapt it," "someone tried but couldn't adapt it," and "someone is trying to adapt it right now."
The Long Walk is just one of those books, and it belongs to both the second and third categories. Stephen King himself considers it to be one of his best novels. The author created it as a student, but could not publish it for a long time.
What is The Long Walk About?
The characters in The Long Walk live in an alternative future America. Once upon a time there was a global catastrophe, but the author deliberately hides the details from us. It is now a police state ruled by a dictator known as the Major.
On his initiative, a survival game is held every year – 100 young men, accompanied by military personnel, set out on a certain route.

A couple of years ago, it was announced that Warner Bros. and producer Akiva Goldsman‘s company Weed Road are working on a sequel to the 2007 Richard Matheson adaptation I Am Legend (watch it Here), which will see Will Smith reprising the role of Dr. Robert Neville, now joined in the cast by an unspecified character played by Michael B. Jordan. We haven’t heard much about I Am Legend 2 as time has gone by – but Entertainment Tonight caught up with Smith at a screening of the new Bad Boys sequel Bad Boys: Ride or Die, and he confirmed that it’s still in the works, adding that there are “really solid ideas” for this sequel.
Smith said that he and Jordan “had a couple weeks together about a month ago. I think it’s looking good. [We have some] really solid ideas… I think we’re going to make it on screen together.

Francis Lawrence's 2007 post-apocalyptic drama "I Am Legend" is based loosely on the celebrated 1954 novel by Richard Matheson. The original novel is set in the near future of 1976 when a destructive war has ravaged the Earth, and a horrible virus has infected the survivors. The virus transforms its victims into pale-skinned, nocturnal ghouls with an appetite for human blood, more or less making them vampires. The novel follows Robert Neville, seemingly the last human alive, as he tries to survive in a ravaged Los Angeles and study the virus during the daylight hours. The title comes from the novel's famous twist ending.
"I Am Legend" was adapted to film in 1964 as "The Last Man on Earth," and in 1971 as "The Omega Man," before Lawrence's 2007 version. Lawrence's version transposes the action to New York and makes Neville (Will Smith) into a surviving virologist attempting to come up with a cure for the vampire virus.

Keanu Reeves is making headlines again after joining the cast of Paramount‘s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as the voice of Shadow the Hedgehog by engaging in talks to star in Triangle of Sadness director Ruben Östlund’s next feature, The Entertainment System Is Down.
Variety broke the news on Friday. Still, details about the plot remain a mystery. Östlund says The Entertainment System Is Down is a social satire set on a long-haul flight with a faulty entertainment system. As boredom spreads throughout the cabin, rage starts to overwhelm the passengers. Chaos ensues. The idea for Östlund’s next feature is something he’s been building for years. The filmmaker says he’s been collecting anecdotes to use as inspiration for The Entertainment System Is Down, with several years of material at his disposal. Though it likely involves dark comedy and sharp humor, Reeves’s role remains a mystery.

It’s been almost twenty years, but there’s a chance we might see Keanu Reeves reprising his role as John Constantine on the big screen! In November 2012, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro struck a deal to make a Justice League Dark movie featuring DC Comics’ supernatural characters, including John Constantine. In November 2020, actor Peter Stormare hinted at a sequel possibly being in progress through an Instagram post. However, neither Warner Bros. nor Reeves themselves confirmed this at the time.
Then, in 2023, Francis Lawrence mentioned that he and Keanu Reeves were brainstorming ideas for the sequel, but every time they came close to something solid, the management at DC studio would undergo changes.
“But luckily, we managed to wrangle some control and started working on some ideas for Constantine 2, which we’re really excited about. It’s still the very beginning, as the strike put it on hold for a little bit.

Keanu Reeves appeared in 2005’s superhero horror movie Constantine, directed by Francis Lawrence which was loosely based on the DC Comics/Vertigo Comics Hellblazer graphic novels. The actor portrayed the character of a cynical exorcist in the movie, which also starred Tilda Swinton, Shia Labeouf, Rachel Weisz, and more.

It’s been eight years since we last visited the world of Panem. Now the world spans to five films and this time we’re sent back over 60 years to see the 10th annual Hunger Games and the rise of Coriolanus Snow. This time Snow is played by newcomer Tom Blyth, who has to carry the runtime of the film all by himself. He’s joined for the most part by Rachel Zegler, who plays Lucy Gray.
The two leads carry the film effortlessly, Tom Blyth in particular does a fantastic job of giving complexity to Snow, showcasing a flawed but ambitious character as we slowly see his loss of humanity grow on screen. The film, unlike its predecessors,...

The Berlin Film Festival has just three Indian narrative fiction features in the 2024 lineup, but all of them are sophomore efforts by filmmakers who have already won global acclaim for their debuts.
Raam Reddy burst onto the international scene with “Thithi” (“Funeral”), which won the Golden Leopard — Filmmakers of the Present and the First Feature awards at Locarno in 2015. P.S. Vinothraj won Rotterdam’s top award, the Tiger, for “Koozhangal” (“Pebbles”) in 2021. Vinothraj’s “Kottukkaali” (“The Adamant Girl”), screening in Berlin’s Forum strand, follows a young woman who is in love with a man from one of India...

What does it take for a movie adaptation to transcend its source material? Many a filmmaker uses a book as a blueprint (whether or not they read it in its entirety) but take creative license to put their own unique stylistic and/or thematic spin on what is necessarily a much more visual story than the original one on the page.
